[first lines; we see a montage of newsreels as earth is invaded by aliens]

Channel 2 News Anchor: I’m not sure if we’re even on the air. Uh… this is uh… a series of explosions…

[suddenly the building behind him explodes]

English News Reporter #1: We're now being told this is a major incident. The emergency is a major incident…

English News Reporter #2: ...bright light and an orange glow...

English News Reporter #3: soon as the meteor hit.

English News Reporter #4: It does now appear to be a major attack.

CNN News Anchor: Since they landed outside Hamburg five years ago they have steadily advanced across Europe. We’ve suffered millions of casualties and yet…

BBC News Anchor: The evacuation of key government officials continuing…

BBC New Reporter #1: ...nothing have done and been able to stop their advance…

BBC New Reporter #2: In human costs, the Europeans have paid the highest price…

Sky News Anchor: They have the ability to mimic and even anticipate our actions…

[being interviewed on CNN]

General Brigham: We could not defeat them in France, we’ll be fighting them in the streets of London, then New York, then Tokyo. All of humanity is at stake.

[more newsreels showing allied armies winning against the aliens]

CNN News Anchor: After five years, we finally have a victory.

Sky News Reporter: These pictures are just in from Verdun.

CNN News Reporter: … and the quick coalition victory was how low casualties were and how…

BBC New Reporter: We have seen a stunning victory here today. The United Defense Force…

[we then see Major William Cage being interviewed]

BBC News Anchor: How do you convince people that this is a fight that can be won?

Cage: This is an alien invasion and a global war. With the new jacket technology and a limited amount of training we’ve been able to create super soldiers. Look at Rita Vrataski, The Angel of Verdun.

CNN News Anchor: They’re calling her "The Angel of Verdun".

[Rita becomes an instant icon and a recruiting boon for the human military with other military representatives repeating the same lines as Cage on other news channels]

Background New Reporter: She is seen as the new hope for this war.

Military Spokesperson 1: With the new jacket technology and limited training Rita Vrataski was able to kill hundreds of Mimics on only her first day.

[a UDF intro is played]

UDF Announcer: The invariable result is now here. The only thing missing is you.

[The UDF title and its slogan "Without You There Is No Tomorrow" show]

[we see Cage being interviewed on CNN talking about Rita]

Cage: She was able to kill hundreds of Mimics on only her first day in combat, imagine any army of Rita Vrataski’s.

CNN News Anchor: We’re managing to hold them back at the English Channel, but for how long?

[we see more newsreel footage and reports]

New Reporter #1: It is a dangerous task and it’s easy to understand why people are so suspicious about this…

New Reporter #2: Over seventy nations have joined the United Defense Force which hopes to push them back once and for all.

Military Spokesperson 2: We’ve got 'em contained, and with this new technology we’re gonna defeat ’em.

[being interviewed on another news channel]

Cage: Operation Downfall is going to be the largest mechanized invasion in the history of mankind. We will be victorious. We fight, that’s what we do.

[Cage awakens from a doze on a helicopter trip to London, as they land in Trafalgar Square, he walks over to meet a UK military representative]

Cage: Major William Cage, United Stated Military Media.

Julie: Welcome to London, Major.

[Cage is taken to meet with General Brigham at the United Defense Force headquarters]

Secretary – Iris: The General will see you now.

Cage: Thank you.

[Cage follows the secretary to meet with Brigham]

General Brigham: Operation Downfall, the entire might of the UDF invading from France, the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, relieving pressure on the Eastern front and allowing the Russians and Chinese to push the enemy back and we all meet in the middle, exterminating this Mimic scourge along the way. A lot of good soldiers are going to die tomorrow, Major, and when the smoke clears and the body bags start coming home people tend to look for someone to blame, someone like me. Ideally, I’d prefer a different scenario.

[Brigham moves over to take a seat behind his desk]

General Brigham: Please.

[Cage takes the seat opposite]

Cage: A bestselling memoir perhaps? Maybe a career in politics? Off the top of my head I would go with the… ”The Sense of Manifest Destiny”, “Rags to Riches: Rags Rise Through The Ranks, Born to Deliver Us”. And the people, well, they'd love that sort of thing.

General Brigham: You misunderstand, Major. I didn’t ask you here to sell me, I want you to sell the invasion.

Cage: Okay.

General Brigham: You ship out for the coast in one hour, your camera crew is standing by. You’ll be on the beach with the first wave.

[Cage looks confused]

Cage: I’m sorry, the first wave, the beach? You mean, the front?

General Brigham: France. Satellites show minimum enemy movement on the coast, little resistance. A little excitement, something to tell your grandchildren.

Cage: While I appreciate the confidence, General. I do… I do this to avoid doing that.

[Cage laughs nervously]

Cage: I… I… I was in ROTC in college. The war broke out, I lost my advertising firm and here I am. I do what I do, you… you do what you do, but I’m not a soldier, really.

General Brigham: No, of course you’re not. That’s why I’m embedding you with several hundred thousand men and women who are.

Cage: While it is an honor, General, I’m afraid I’m gonna have to decline. I can’t stand the sight of blood, not so much as a paper cut.

[Cage laughs and looks at Brigham who gives him a cold look]

Cage: Uh… but, uh… sitting here thinking about this, uh… a couple of names come to mind that I feel like I could recommend to you inste…

General Brigham: It’s not an offer, Major, it’s an order.

Cage: General, I’m an officer in the United States Military, you don’t even have the authority…

General Brigham: I’ve spoken to your C.O., you are now under my command. You will retain your present rank of course. My secretary has all the details.

[Cage looks stupefied]

General Brigham: Do a good job, Major. Good luck, you’re dismissed.

[as Cage turns to leave Brigham’s office he hesitates]

Cage: General, I just inspired millions of people to join your army, and when the body bags come home and they’re looking for someone to blame, how hard do you think it would be for me to convince people to blame you? I’d imagine the General would prefer to avoid that.

General Brigham: Are you blackmailing me, Major?

Cage: I would prefer not to be filming acts of heroism and valor on that beach tomorrow.

[Brigham gets up and walks over to Cage]

General Brigham: You won’t be.

Cage: I’m glad we could uh… work this out. Now, if you’ll excuse me, General, I…

[he turns to leave, stumbles into a chair then walks over to the door]

Cage: Thank you.

[as Cage leaves the office Brigham turns to one of his guards]

General Brigham: Arrest this man.

Cage: What?

[Brigham turns and walks back in his office, suddenly Cage makes a run for it, the guards rush after him and taser Cage]

Cage wakes to find himself on a pile of duffel bags at Heathrow Airport]

Cruel Sergeant: On your feet, maggot!

[he kicks Cage and Cage stands to face him]

Cage: That’s no way to address an officer, Sergeant.

Cruel Sergeant: That’s how I address a slack-jawed recruit right before I bust his hole with my boot heel, maggot!

[he shoves a duffel back into Cage’s arms]

Master Sergeant Farell: Hold up there, Sergeant.

[Farell walks over to Cage]

Master Sergeant Farell: Can I help you, sir?

Cage: Where the hell am I, Sergeant?

Master Sergeant Farell: Forward Operating Base, Heathrow. You just came in with the fresh recruits.

Cage: Do I strike you as a fresh recruit?

Master Sergeant Farell: No, sir, you do not.

Cage: My name is Major William Cage, I’m an American officer…

Master Sergeant Farell: Officer? This is Processing. There’s no officers down here.

[to the other Sergeant]

Master Sergeant Farell: I got this, Sergeant.

[the Sergeant turns and leaves]

Master Sergeant Farell: How the hell did you end up in Processing? What was it? Poker night? Bachelor party?

Cage: If it’s all the same to you, Sergeant, I’d like to explain that to my Commanding Officer in Washington. So if you just take me to the phone…

Master Sergeant Farell: Haven’t you heard? We’re T-minus-Haul-Ass-H-Hour. We’re fixing to invade France. This whole F.O.B is on lockdown, no calls, in or out.

Cage: You’re name’s Farell?

Master Sergeant Farell: That’s right. Master Sergeant Farell.

Cage: Master Sergeant Farell, you’re an American.

Master Sergeant Farell: No, sir. I’m from Kentucky.

Cage: Okay, well, look at me and look at where I am. I’ve been railroaded. It’s obvious I don’t belong here. So please, Sergeant, there has to be a way I can make a phone call.

Master Sergeant Farell: I’ll get you sorted out, sir.

Cage: Thank you.

Master Sergeant Farell: Right this way.

[as Cage thinks Farell is taking him to make a phone call, he follows Farell]

Cage: Where are you from in Kentucky, Sergeant?

Master Sergeant Farell: Little town called Science Hill, heard of it?

Cage: I have now.

Master Sergeant Farell: How about you, where are you from?

Cage: Cranbury, New Jersey.

Master Sergeant Farell: They grow our cranberries there, do they?

Cage: Tomatoes, best I’ve ever had.

Master Sergeant Farell: Why do they called Cranbury then?

Cage: Why do they call it Science Hill?

Master Sergeant Farell: Never asked, don’t care.

[they stop, Farell smiles points to a military tent]

Master Sergeant Farell: After you.

[Cage looks around and realizes he’s been duped]

Cage: You’re not taking me to a phone, are you, Sergeant?

Master Sergeant Farell: No, I’m not. Seems about the only honest thing you’ve said to me so far is your name.

[Farell takes out a piece of paper and looks at it]

Master Sergeant Farell: Says here you’re a deserter. Says here you were caught impersonating an officer, it says here you’d likely try to make an outside call, even compromise security of this operation, anything to get out of combat duty tomorrow. But that’s not gonna happen, ever. Private Cage.

[Farell takes Cage to the soldier barracks]

Master Sergeant Farell: Rumor is a terrible thing. Come nightfall, these men will all reach the same conclusion, that you’re a coward and a liar, putting your life above theirs. The good news is there’s hope for you, Private. Hope in the form of glorious combat. Battle is the great redeemer, the fiery crucible in which the only true heroes are forged. The one place where all men truly share the same rank, regardless of what kind of parasitic scum they were going in.

[he enters one of the barracks, the soldiers all quickly stand to attention]

Master Sergeant Farell: Squad! This here is Private Cage. Private Cage, J Squad.

[to Cage]

Griff: Isn’t that an Officer’s uniform?

Skinner: These sure ain’t officers cufflinks.

[Cage looks down his hands which are in handcuffs]

Master Sergeant Farell: I see everyone is having a productive morning. You know, it gives me a swell of pride knowing soldiers of your… caliber will be leading the charge tomorrow. Tip of the spear. Edge of the knife. Crack of my ass.

[Farell walks around the room then pulls back the covers on one of the beds to reveal a cards and some money]

Nance: Oh, shit.

Master Sergeant Farell: Private Kimmel, what is my view of gambling in the barracks?

Kimmel: Dislike it, Sergeant Farell.

Master Sergeant Farell: Nance, why do I dislike it?

[Farell holds out the pack of cards]

Nance: Cause it entertains the notion that our fate is in hands other than our own.

[each soldier takes a card from the pack Farell holds out]

Master Sergeant Farell: And what is my definitive position on the concept of fate, chorus?

Squad: Through readiness and discipline, we are masters of our fate.

[Cage watches as soldiers eat the cards they were gambling with, Farell walks over to Cage]

Master Sergeant Farell: You might call that notion ironic, but trust me, you’ll come around.

[Farell uncuffs Cage’s hands and turns to the squad]

Master Sergeant Farell: Private Cage is a deserter, I’m making you all personally responsible for his deliverance. He will be combat ready at 06:00 tomorrow.

Cage: Combat ready?

Master Sergeant Farell: Private Cage is under the delusion that he does not belong here, we must dissuade him of this delusion. If he tries to run, feel free to dissuade him until he can’t piss standing up.

Cage: Sergeant, you have to listen to me, I will never be combat ready!

[Farell shoves Cage’s private boots and uniform into his gut, forcing him to take them]

Master Sergeant Farell: I envy you, Cage. Tomorrow morning, you will be baptized, born again.

[Farell turns and starts to walk off]

Master Sergeant Farell: PT, ten minutes!

[as Farell leaves the rest of squad look at Cage with distrust]

Nance: You’re not in uniform… Private.

[the next morning the soldiers stand for attention as Farell addresses the squad]

Master Sergeant Farell: It’s a new day, people! Destiny calls. The world expects only one thing from us: that we will win!

[then everyone, including Cage, is fitted into a suit, Cage looks around nervously and watches as Skinner straps some explosives onto his suite]

Skinner: Come on, Kimmel, let’s have it!

[then we see Kimmel getting fitted into his suite naked]

Nance: Oh, for chrissake, Kimmel!

Kimmel: I gotta be free, man!

[Griff helps Cage into his suite]

Griff: Alright, man. Let’s get this show on the road, I gotta suite up.

Cage: What’s that noise? That… Listen, man, I’ve never been in one of these.

Griff: Yeah, well, I’ve never been with two girls at the same time before. But you can bet when that day comes, I’ll make it work.

[Griff goes to leave]

Cage: Uh… Kimmel?

Griff: It’s Griff.

Cage: Griff. Griff. Listen to me, think about this, man. I could hurt somebody with it.

Griff: Not with the safety on, you won’t.

[Griff walks off]

Cage: What? Where is the safety?

Griff: Exactly!

[the others laugh]

[we see a suited up soldier walk over to Rita who is preparing herself for the battle]

Soldier #1: It’s time.

[Rita gets suited up including wearing a helmet, then as she walks out with her squad a soldier walks over to her]

Soldier #2: Bloody hell! It’s the Full Metal…

[suddenly she punches the soldier in his stomach, then we see Farell, Cage and the rest of the J Squad making their way to the aircrafts]

Master Sergeant Farell: Griff!

Griff: Sarge?

Master Sergeant Farell: Take care of Private Cage.

Griff: What, all day?

Master Sergeant Farell: Something tells me it won’t be nearly that long.

[as the J Squad make their way to their aircraft Cage looks around him like a nervous wreck and decides to make a run for it]

Skinner: Griff, Cage!

[Griff and Skinner stop Cage, then on the aircraft Farell addresses the squad as they head towards the French Coast]

Master Sergeant Farell: We lost Germany, we lost France. If we lose today we won’t get to fight another. I know the pressure on you is enormous. Two minutes to drop. It’s alright to be scared. Remember, there’s no courage without fear.

[we see Cage with his eyes closed, sweating buckets and looking like a nervous wreck]

Skinner: Oi! Oi, mate! I think there’s something wrong with your suite. Yeah! There’s a dead guy in it.

[everyone laughs]

Ford: Hey, watch your back out there, sir.

Nance: No one else will.

[they all laugh again]

Master Sergeant Farell: One minute! One minute to drop!

[Cage turns his head to the soldier next to him]

Cage: Hey! Hey!

Kimmel: What?

Cage: How do I turn the safety off of my weapon?

[at the same time a loud alarm goes off]

Kimmel: What?

Cage: How do I turn the safety off…

[suddenly the bottom of the aircraft starts to open]

Cage: Oh, my God!

Master Sergeant Farell: Get ready! Thirty seconds to drop! On my mark! Standby to deploy! Activate drop lines! Remember…

[just then the back of their aircraft explodes]

Master Sergeant Farell: Drop now! Drop!

[the squad starts dropping out of the plane one by one]

Master Sergeant Farell: Drop! Go! Let’s go! Come on! Drop!

[Cage watches everyone drop and remains the last one]

Master Sergeant Farell: Cage, drop or die!

[Farell drops and Cage still reluctant to drop has no choice but to drop, as he does he clumsily lands on the shore of the French Coast with the other soldiers]

[as everything around him is exploding, Cage looks around and sees Kimmel in the distance]

Kimmel: Yeah! Wooh-hoo! We made it! Thank God, we made it! Yeah!

[suddenly one of the aircrafts drops onto Kimmel killing him instantly, Cage walks across the shore along with the other soldier as the Mimics fire at them, he watches soldiers being killed, an explosion from an aircraft landing nearby makes Cage fall, he watches as Rita and her team get out of the aircraft and start battling it out with the Mimics, then after she kills one Mimic she notices Cage, they stare at each other for a second when suddenly a Mimic kills Rita and her body lands next to Cage]

Cage: What the…?!

[Cage gets up and starts walking off when he runs into Farell]

Master Sergeant Farell: Private Cage! You’re going the wrong way! You’re gonna miss your moment!

[he turns Cage around and pushes him]

[as watches the Mimics slaughtering them]

Griff: What the hell? They’re not supposed to know we’re even coming.

Ford: We walked into a slaughterhouse, man! It’s a slaughterhouse!

Skinner: Pull yourself together, Ford!

Master Sergeant Farell: On your feet, people! Get in line! Nance, get me a sitrep!

Cage: Safety? My safety?

Master Sergeant Farell: Griff, Ford, cover the flank!

[to Griff and Ford as they walk past him]

Cage: My safety? My safety? How do I get my safety… ?

[suddenly there’s an explosion nearby]

Master Sergeant Farell: I’m waiting, Nance!

Nance: I got traces! Five hundred meters and they’re coming in fast!

Master Sergeant Farell: Son of a bitch.

[Farell turns and pushes Cage away]

Master Sergeant Farell: Out of the way!

[looking ahead as Mimics land on the shore]

Master Sergeant Farell: Here they come. Mean as hell and thick as grass. Wait till they're right on us! Few more seconds!

[as Cage is frantically trying to figure out how to get the safety off his weapon he notices movement under the ground and sees a Mimic comes out]

Cage: Hey! Hey!

[the Mimic starts slaughtering them all then Cage finally manages to get the safety off his weapon and shoots down the Mimic before it kills him, then as he’s laughing to himself another giant blue Mimic appears, just as the Mimic is about to jump on Cage, he grabs a Claymore mine and the blast kills them both with the Mimic’s blood dousing him]

[as Cage dies from the mine blast he suddenly wakes up yelling in panic at Heathrow he notices he’s in the same position he was the previous morning, lying on top of the duffel bags with his hands cuffed]

Cruel Sergeant: On your feet, maggot!

[Cage gets up and looks at the Sergeant in confusion]

Cruel Sergeant: Get in line before I bust your hole with my boot heel, maggot!

[he hands Cage a folded military uniform and boots]

Master Sergeant Farell: Hold up there, Sergeant.

[Cage watches in shock and confusion as Farell walk over to him]

Master Sergeant Farell: Can I help you, sir?

Cage: Sergeant Farell. Is it…?

Master Sergeant Farell: That is my name.

[Cage looks around him in confusion]

Master Sergeant Farell: I think I get it. What was it? Poker night? Bachelor party?

Cage: I’m not sure.

Master Sergeant Farell: It happens. I’ll get you sorted out, sir. Let me take those for you.

[Farell goes to grab the military clothes from Cage’s hands but Cage pulls back]

Cage: What… what day is it?

Master Sergeant Farell: For you?

[he takes out a piece of paper from his pocket]

Master Sergeant Farell: Judgment day.

[Farell takes Cage to the barracks]

Master Sergeant Farell: The good news is there’s hope for your, Private. Hope in the form of glorious combat. Battle is the great redeemer. The fiery crucible in which the only true heroes are forged…

Cage: … the only true heroes are forged.

Master Sergeant Farell: Did you just interrupt me, Private?

Cage: Sergeant, you’re… you’re not gonna believe what I’m about to tell you.

Master Sergeant Farell: No, I’m not. Now, where was I?

Cage: The fiery crucible.

Master Sergeant Farell: The fiery crucible in which the only true heroes are forged.

[Farell continues to walk on]

Master Sergeant Farell: The one place where all men truly share the same rank, regardless of what kind of parasitic scum they were going in.

[Farell enters the J squad barracks]

Master Sergeant Farell: Squad! This here is Private Cage. Private Cage, J Squad.

Griff: Isn’t that an Officer's uniform?

Skinner: These sure ain’t officer cufflinks.

[Cage looks around as he realizes he’s hearing the same conversation as the previous morning]

Master Sergeant Farell: You know it gives me a swell of pride knowing soldiers of your… caliber will be leading the charge tomorrow. Tip of the spear. Edge of the knife. Crack of my ass.

[as the previous day Farell discovers their playing cards under one of the bed covers]

[Cage watches as Nance takes one of the cards]

Master Sergeant Farell: And what is my definitive position on the concept of fate, chorus?

[Cage says the words quietly under his breath as the others say it out loud]

Cage: Through readiness and discipline, we are masters of our fate.

[Farell walks over to Cage]

Master Sergeant Farell: You might call that notion ironic, but trust me, you’ll come around.

[next we see Cage as he gets suited hearing again the same conversations as the previous day]

Nance: Oh, for chrissake, Kimmel!

Kimmel: I gotta be free, man!

Griff: Alright, man. Let’s get this show on the road, I gotta suite up.

[as Griff finishes suiting him up Cage suddenly presses a button and disengages a part of his suite which nearly hits Griff in the face]

Griff: Hey, what the hell’s wrong with you, man? Haven’t you been in one of these before?

[looking confused]

Cage: Maybe.

Griff: Do you know where the safety is?

Cage: I’m not sure.

Griff: Good.

[on the aircraft as they are being taken to the French Coast Farell gives them the same speech as the day before]

Master Sergeant Farell: I know the pressure on you is enormous. Two minutes to drop. It’s alright to be scared. Remember, there’s no courage without fear.

Skinner: Oi! Oi, mate! I think there’s something wrong with your suite. Yeah! There’s a dead guy in it.

[everyone laughs]

Ford: Hey, watch your back out there, sir.

[Cage knowing what Nance is about to say repeats her words at the same time]

Cage, Nance: No one else will.

Nance: Ha-ha! Jinx, bitch!

[just then the bottom of the plane opens]

Master Sergeant Farell: On my mark! standby to deploy! Activate drop ride! Thirty seconds! Remember…

[just as the previous day suddenly the back of the plane explodes, Cage watches as everyone then drops off the plane and as yesterday Cage drops last]

[after Cage lands on the ground he looks over to Kimmel]

Kimmel: Yeah! Wooh-hoo! We made it!

Cage: Behind you! Look out!

[it’s too late and the aircraft suddenly lands on Kimmel again killing him and again Cage watches as Rita’s plane crash lands, watches her fight the Mimics and as she’s about to get killed he pushes her away from the explosion]

Cage: Incoming!

[Cage manages to save Rita but gets hit in the process]

Cage: I’m hit! I’m hit!

[Rita pushes him off of her]

Cage: How bad is it? Is there… is there a lot of blood?

Rita: You have a hole in your chest.

Cage: Really?

Rita: Yeah.

[Rita takes Cage’s battery pack from his suite]

Cage: Did you just take my… my battery?

[Rita turns and walks off, at the same time the Mimic from underground suddenly emerges]

Cage: No, no, no. Holy fu…!

[the Mimic kills Cage]

[after getting killed by the Mimic again Cage wakes up again on top of the duffel bags at Heathrow airport]

Cruel Sergeant: On your feet, maggot!

[suddenly Cage rushes ahead and steps in front of Farell’s vehicle]

Cage: Sergeant Farell! Sergeant Farell!

[Farell stops his vehicle and gets out]

Master Sergeant Farell: Can I help you, sir?

Cage: My name is Major Bill Cage. I'm U.S. Army Media Relations. I wasn’t at a bachelor party or a poker game! You have an order in your left pocket that says that I’m a deserter caught impersonating an officer. But what it doesn’t say is that your… your name is Master Sergeant Farell from Science Hill, Kentucky. And if you’ll give me thirty seconds to explain how I know that, you may just save the lives of every soldier on this base.

[we see Cage being dragged into the barracks by Farell’s guards]

Cage: You have to listen to me! They know we’re coming! They’re waiting for us! I have been there, I’ve seen it! You’re all doomed! You’re doomed!

[to the guards as they enter the J Squad barracks and he pull himself out of their hold]

Cage: Okay. Okay. Okay, I'm fine. I'm fine.

[turning to Farell]

Cage: This is J Squad, yes?

Master Sergeant Farell: This is J Squad, yes.

Cage: Not that I should know that, but okay. Have any of you met me before?

Nance: Bitch, I don’t know you.

Cage: Exactly! Yes! Thank you. Your name is Nance.

[pointing to Kimmel]

Cage: You’re Bibble… Kibblee… Kimmel! You fight balls out, literally.

[pointing to each man]

Cage: Ford. Skinner. Griff.

[points to Kuntz]

Cage: You’re…

[turning to Farell]

Cage: He doesn’t talk much. But there’s a card game under the bed…

Ford: Thank a lot, asshole.

[Farell takes off the bed cover to reveal the cards]

Cage: Uh… Kimmel’s working on a flush. Uh… spades… No, clubs.

[goes over to Farell]

Cage: And you’re gonna make them eat those cards. Am I right?

[Farell just watches him in confusion]

Cage: Now, what I’m about to tell you sounds crazy. It’s true, and you have to listen to me. You’re very lives depend on it.

[next we see Cage with his mouth gagged inside the aircraft taking them to the French Coast, he continues to warn them under his mouth gag]

Griff: What? What is he saying? Nance! What is he saying?

[just then the bottom of the plane opens]

Master Sergeant Farell: On my mark! Standby to deploy! Activate drop Lines! Thirty seconds! Remember…

[suddenly Cage gets the gag off his mouth and yells out]

Cage: This ship is about to explo… !

[as before the back of the ship explodes, but this time knowing Cage presses the button on his suite to drop himself out of the plane and as before he sees Kimmel in the distance]

Kimmel: Yeah! Wooh! We made it! Thank God, we made it!

[just as the large aircraft is about to land on Kimmel, Cage rushes over to him and pushes him out of the way and instead ends up being crushed to death by the aircraft]

[Cage wakes up again on the duffel bags at Heathrow going through the same loop again]

Cruel Sergeant: … or I’ll bust your hole with my boot heel!

[we see Cage landing on the beach and as before sees Kimmel in the distance yell in excitement]

Kimmel: Yeah! Wooh! We made it!

[Cage manages to push Kimmel to safety without getting himself killed this time, then rushes off to find Rita but in the process gets hit by military vehicle; in the next loop we Cage running to get to Rita but this time manages to avoid getting hit by the vehicle]

[Cage finds Rita and as he rushes towards making her fall back into the crashed aircraft]

Cage: I’m sorry! I’m trying to save you. We’re getting slaughtered, you need to get us off this beach.

[Rita watches him in shock as Cage points his weapon up to shoot the Mimic that’s about to attack them]

Cage: We have to go. This drop ship is about to explode. We have to go now!

[he helps Rita stand and rushes forward but stops as he sees another Mimic]

Cage: Wait.

[he shoots at the Mimic]

Cage: Come on!

[Cage rushes out of the aircraft and shoots at the wounded Mimic killing it, Rita watches him as she slowly walks out of the aircraft]

Cage: Come on!

[as Cage moves on ahead Rita stops just by the aircraft watching Cage]

Cage: Come on! This ship is going to explode!

[Rita drops her weapon to the ground]

Cage: What are you doing?

Rita: Find me when you wake up.

Cage: What?

Rita: Come find me when you wake up…

[suddenly the aircraft explodes killing them both]

[Cage wakes up again on the duffel bags at Heathrow]

Cruel Sergeant: On your feet, maggot!

[Cage watches the bus go by which as image of Rita painted on with the words “Full Metal Bitch” written over her image]

Cruel Sergeant: Get in line before I bust your hole with my boot heel, maggot!

[next we see Farrell escorting Cage to the J Squad barracks]

Master Sergeant Farell: The good news is there’s hope for your, Private. Battle is the great redeemer. The fiery crucible in which the only true heroes are forged. The one place where all men truly share the…

[suddenly Cage rushes on ahead to enter the barracks, whistles to warn them that Farell is coming in and helps to cover up their game of cards by pulling down the bed cover]

Master Sergeant Farell: Squad! This here is…

Cage: Private Cage. You must be J Squad. It’s good to meet you.

Griff: Isn’t that an officer’s uniform?

[Cage turns to Skinner, holds up his handcuffed hands and speaks the words Skinner was going to say]

Cage: These sure ain’t officer's cufflinks.

[Cage turns to Farell]

Cage: Keys in the left pocket… probably.

[Farell gets the keys out and unlocks Cage’s cuffs]

[to the squad]

Master Sergeant Farell: Private Cage is a deserter. I’m making you all personally responsible for his deliverance. He will be combat ready by 06:00 tomorrow.

[Cage turns and grabs his folded uniform from the guards that escorted him and places it on his bunk bed]

Master Sergeant Farell: Private Cage is under the delusion that he does not belong here, we must dissuade him of this delusion. If he tries to run, feel free dissuade him until…

Cage: Oh, no, no, no, no. I’m… I’m not gonna run from you, guys. It’s uh… not a chance.

Master Sergeant Farell: … he can’t piss standing up.

Cage: Thank you, Sergeant Farell.

[he shakes Farell’s hands, Farell gives him a cold look and walks out of the barracks]

Cage: What next? A little uh… PT?

[he hears Farell’s voice in the background]

Master Sergeant Farell: PT, ten minutes!

[during PT with Farell, Cage looks around him to find a way to sneak out and find Rita]

Master Sergeant Farell: Left. Left. Left. What are you? Sound off!

J Squad: I'm a warrior!

Master Sergeant Farell: What do warriors do?

J Squad: Kill!

Master Sergeant Farell: What are you gonna do?

J Squad: Kill!

Master Sergeant Farell: What are you gonna do?

J Squad: Kill!

Ford: It's gonna be my twentieth battle tomorrow, man.

Griff: You haven’t been in twenty battles, mate.

Ford: I have, too!

Griff: You’re gonna dump your load the second we hit the beach tomorrow.

Nance: Why don’t you two get yourselves a nice hot cup of shut-the-hell-up?

[Ford chuckles]

Ford: Ha-ha. You funny, girl. But I bet you I set some kind of record tomorrow.

Skinner: Fastest time running backwards, Ford, slipping in your own shit.

Master Sergeant Farell: Knock off the grab-ass!

Cage: Grab this, Sarge!

Master Sergeant Farell: Hold up!

[the Squad stops running, Farell goes over to Cage]

Master Sergeant Farell: Private, drop and give me…

[Cage immediately drops down to do sit up]

Cage: Fifty, Sarge?

Master Sergeant Farell: That’s right. Fifty. Platoon! Drop and give me fifty. Compliments of Private Cage!

[the Squad gets down to do the sit ups]

Cage: Thank you, Sarge.

Master Sergeant Farell: And one!

J Squad: One!

Master Sergeant Farell: And two!

J Squad: Two!

[Cage watches out of the army tanks driving by them]

Master Sergeant Farell: And three!

J Squad: Three!

Master Sergeant Farell: Four!

J Squad: Four!

Master Sergeant Farell: Five!

[suddenly as one of the army truck drives past Cage he quickly rolls out to go under it but instead ends up getting run over and killed]

Master Sergeant Farell: Oh! What the hell were you thinking?

[we’re onto the next loop with Cage being taken to the barracks to be introduced to J Squad]

Master Sergeant Farell: There’s hope for your, Private. Hope in the form of glorious combat. Battle is the great redeemer…

[next we see Cage at PT doing the sit ups with the rest of the squad waiting for army trucks to drive past them]

Master Sergeant Farell: Three!

J Squad: Three!

Master Sergeant Farell: Four!

J Squad: Four!

Master Sergeant Farell: Five!

J Squad: Five!

Master Sergeant Farell: Six!

[Cage grabs his moment again and rolls out and this time manages to roll under the moving truck and out the other side safe and alive and goes in search for Rita]

[after getting away from PT he finds Rita whilst she’s training]

Cage: Excuse me. Sergeant Vrataski?

[she ignores him]

Cage: Excuse me! Sergeant Vrataski?

[he sees all the other soldiers watching him with curiosity, as she ignores him he steps over “Do Not Cross” line and enters her training area which sets off an alarm, he rushes over to her managing to avoid getting hit by the mock Mimics in the training area]

Cage: Excuse me!

[looking annoyed Rita faces Cage]

Rita: Yes? Who said you could talk to me? Have I got something on my face, soldier?

Cage: You did. You did. Tomorrow, at the beach. Tomorrow, at the beach. We meet. You said to find you when I wake up.

[Rita walks closer to him as she stares at him]

Cage: You do know what’s happening to me.

Rita: Come with me. Now. You don’t talk to anyone about this but me, cause the best case scenario is you’re gonna end up in a psych ward. The worst case, you’ll get dissected for study. Are we clear?

[Cage looks at her]

Rita: Yes?

Cage: Yes.

Rita: First time you died, what happened? You killed a Mimic?

Cage: Yes.

Rita: Describe it.

Cage: Uh… it was different, it was bigger, blueish.

Rita: And you got covered in its blood.

Cage: As a matter of fact, I did.

Rita: They know we’re coming on the beach tomorrow. It’s a slaughter, isn’t it?

Cage: How do you know this?

[Rita doesn’t reply and walks on ahead]

Cage: Could you just… Wait! Wait! Wait!

Rita: Would you please just explain to me what the hell is happening?

[Rita turns and faces Cage]

Rita: What happened to you happened to me. I had it. I lost it. Okay?

Cage: I mean, that’s great, there’s a cure. How do I get rid of this?

Rita: First, I need your help.

Cage: Help with what exactly?

Rita: Winning the war.

[she turns and goes to one of the army vehicles]

Rita: Let’s go! Come on!

[Rita takes Cage to a weapons building bay where her acquaintance Carter works, as Rita enters a back room Carter joins them]

Dr. Carter: Rita, what is this? Rita, what are you doing here? You’ve got to give me some warning. Who’s this?

Rita: He’s me. Before Verdun. He’s gonna help us.

Dr. Carter: What? You mean, he’s… ?

Rita: Yes.

[looking at Cage]

Dr. Carter: When did he die? Where?

Rita: On the beach, tomorrow.

[to Cage]

Dr. Carter: How many fingers am I holding up behind my back?

Cage: How should I know that?

[Carter brings his hand forward to show two fingers]

Dr. Carter: Okay. So this is the first time we’ve had this conversation.

[Cage nods]

[Rita picks up a small device from the table]

Rita: You should try this on him?

[she presses a button which brings out several small spikes from the device making Cage pull back surprise]

Cage: What the hell is that?

Dr. Carter: It doesn’t work.

[Carter takes the device out of Rita’s hand and puts it away]

Dr. Carter: Has he had any visions yet?

Cage: Visions of what?

Dr. Carter: Okay, so there’s still time.

Rita: Yes.

Cage: Time? Look, I… I’m sorry.

[looking at Carter]

Cage: What just… Who is this? Who are you?

Dr. Carter: I’m Dr. Carter. Particle Physics. Advanced Microbiology.

Rita: He’s also the only other person who’ll believe what’s happening to you. No one understands Mimic biology better than him. He’s a top analyst at Whitehall.

Dr. Carter: Ye… well, I mean, I was until I met Rita and now I’m just a… a “mechanic with psychiatric delusions.”

Rita: Carter, show him.

Dr. Carter: Here, uh…

[he uncovers a monitor and activates it which show up 3D images of Mimics]

Dr. Carter: Right. Well, first of all, you’re not fighting an army. You have to think of this as a single organism. Now these common drones, they act like its claws.

Rita: That Alpha’s, like the one that you killed, are much more rare.

Dr. Carter: Yeah, they’re like one in six point one eight million, by my guess.

Rita: Yes. They act as the enemies…

Dr. Carter: They’re like its central nervous system. But this… is the brain.

[he brings up a 3D image of its brain]

Dr. Carter: It controls them all. And this is the Omega. And the Omega has the ability to control time.

Rita: Whenever an Alpha is killed, an automatic response is triggered. The Omega starts the day over again. But you see, this time it can remember what’s going to happen just like you do.

Dr. Carter: It… it knows exactly what we’re gonna do before we’re gonna do it.

Rita: And an enemy that knows the future can’t lose.

Cage: But if that’s true, how did you win in Verdun?

Rita: We were allowed to win. This thing wants us to believe we can win. It wants us to throw everything we have into the invasion. Operation Downfall isn’t our end game, it’s the enemy’s.

Dr. Carter: The thing you’ve got to understand is this is a perfectly evolved world-conquering organism. For all we know, there are thousands, millions, of those asteroids floating around the cosmos like a virus. And it’s just waiting to crash land into a world with just the right conditions. All they need is for the dominant life form to attack and…

[he snaps his fingers]

Rita: And they’ll be nothing to stop the Mimics from conquering the rest of the world. Unless you change the outcome.

Cage: Me?

Dr. Carter: When you killed that Alpha you inadvertently entered the enemy’s nervous system.

Rita: Cage, you’ve seized control of the Omega’s ability to restet the day.

Cage: How is that even possible?

Dr. Carter: Perhaps this organism’s only vulnerability… its… its only vulnerability is humanity.

Rita: Regardless of that, you control the power now. Just as I did in Verdun.

Cage: So I’m resetting the day?

[Rita nods her head]

Cage: Okay. How do I control it?

[Carter looks at Rita for a moment]

Rita: You have to die.

Dr. Carter: Every day.

Rita: Until the Omega is destroyed.

[Cage looks shocked]

Cage: Fist of all, this is a terrific presentation. Terrific. I know the General. We should take this to him. You just tell him everything you told me, he would know…

Rita: I went to see the General, Cage. Any number of times Psyche ward, dissection. Remember?

Cage: What are you expecting from me?

Dr. Carter: Have you seen anything strange?

[looking at Rita]

Cage: Is he shitting me?

Rita: Visions.

Dr. Carter: Visions! Have you seen any visions like that?

[pointing to the 3D image of the Omega]

Dr. Carter: The Omega senses when it’s losing control of its power, even now its mentally searching to find you.

Rita: When it’s close to finding you, you will start having visions. You’ll start to see that.

[points to the 3D image of the Omega]

Dr. Carter: You’ll even see where it is.

Cage: And you had these visions?

Rita: Yes.

Cage: But eventually you saw it. I mean, you actually saw it. Right?

[Rita hesitates a moment before replying]

Rita: Never in the flesh

Cage: So this is all just some… theory. You don’t know if this thing even exists.

Rita: The visions showed me it was at Verdun, I could see it! I… I just… lost the power before I could get to it.

Dr. Carter: And by the time we took Verdun, the Omega was gone.

Cage: Okay, so all I have to do is wait to have these visions, and then tell you where this Omega thing is?

Rita: No, Cage. You’re gonna get me there, and I’m gonna kill it.

Cage: Get you there. I’m not even trained for combat.

[Rita gives him a look]

[Cage is being combat trained by Rita, as she demonstrates for him by taking down the mock Mimics one of them smacks right into Cage and he smashes into the wall]

Rita: Are you alright, Cage?

Cage: I think I broke something.

Rita: What?

Cage: My back. The only thing I can feel are my lips.

Rita: Now listen carefully. This is a very important rule. This is the only rule. You get injured on the field, you better make sure you die.

Cage: Why?

Rita: Last time I was in combat, I was hit. I was bleeding out, just not fast enough. I woke up in a field hospital with three pints of someone else’s blood and I was out. I lost the power, do you understand? Then you better start over, don’t you?

Cage: What?

[Rita holds up her weapon and shoots him]

[Cage wakes up again back at Heathrow, then we skip to PT where Farell is making J Squad do sit ups]

Master Sergeant Farell: No one knows what happened to Private Cage! Skinner, you dumb ass, he was right next to you, you’re telling me you don’t know where that slippery son of a bitch went?

Skinner: No, Sarge!

Master Sergeant Farell: Alright. Let’s do another fifty, shall we? And one!

Kimmel: Oh, no!

[Cage has managed to slip away again to find Rita whilst she trains]

Cage: No! Wait, wait! My name is Bill Cage. I… we met on the beach. We meet on the beach, tomorrow. I have what you had.

[Rita starts to combat train him again where Cage next knocked down by one of the mock Mimics]

Rita: Ugh. Alright, let’s go again.

[it doesn’t take long for Cage to get hit again]

Rita: You don’t have time to think. Remember, it’s now enough knowing where they’re going to be, you have to know how to kill them.

[Cage gets knocked down again, Rita walks over to him with her weapon]

Cage: That’s it… hold on! Hold on! Listen! Listen!

[Rita gets ready to shoot Cage]

Cage: Okay, do it.

[Rita points her gun and shoots him]

[Cage wakes up again back at Heathrow]

Cruel Sergeant: On your feet, maggot!

[it skips to Cage being trained, this time he’s having more success shooting the mock Mimics]

Cage: Stop! Wait! Wait, wait, wait! Stop! Wait! Wait a second! Wait a sec. Wait a second.

[Rita turns off the mock Mimics]

Cage: Wait a second. You know, I’ve been thinking. I mean, this thing’s in my blood. So maybe there’s some way I can transfer it to you.

Rita: I’ve tried everything, it doesn’t work.

Cage: And have you… you know… tried all… all the options?

Rita: Oh, you mean sex? Yep, tried it.

Cage: How many times?

Rita: All right.

[Rita turns on the mock Mimic when knocks down Cage]

[Cage is being trained again, Rita instructs him as he shoots at the mock Mimics]

Rita: Left. Left! Left, left!

[Cage gets picked off the floor by one of the mock Mimics and is then crushed face first into the wall]

Rita: Keep your eyes open.

[Cage gets hit again]

Rita: Again!

[Cage get knocked down again]

Rita: Again!

[Cage gets knocked out again]

Rita: Again!

[Cage gets knocked down]

Rita: Again!

[Cage continually gets knocked down, after the latest hit Cage slides over to Rita who gets ready to shoot him]

Cage: Just wait, wait! I think I’m okay.

[Rita points her weapon and shoots him]

[Cage wakes up again back at Heathrow]

Cruel Sergeant: On your feet, maggot!

[next we see Rita shooting him again after another failed training session, then wakes up to cruel sergeant again]

Cruel Sergeant: Maggot!

[again Rita shoots him after another failed session and the loop begins again]

Cruel Sergeant: Maggot!

[Rita shoots him again and the loop begins again, Cage looks weary as cruel sergeant shouts in his face]

Cruel Sergeant: Now, I’m trying to be nice to you, maggot! Now move!

[as Cage gets knocked down at the next training session]

Rita: You okay, Cage?

Cage: Oh, yeah! Yeah, I’m good! I’m good!

Rita: Your leg’s broken.

Cage: No! I… I can still feel my toes.

[Rita starts walking over to Cage and tries to move away, Rita reaches him and points her weapon at him]

Cage: Oh!

[she shoots him]

[after being shot by Rita again Cage has a vision of a dam in Germany where the Omega is, but suddenly he wakes up in another loop, after which to Rita taking him to see Carter]

Dr. Carter: Rita! Rita! What is this? What are you doing here? Look, who’s this guy?

Rita: He’s me…

Cage, Rita: … before Verdun.

Dr. Carter: What… what do you mean? He’s… ?

Rita: Yes! Yes!

Dr. Carter: When did he die? Where?

Rita: On the beach, tomorrow.

Cage: I’m Bill Cage, you’re Dr. Carter, we’ve had this conversation before. You have two fingers behind your back. I’ve had the visions. I’ve seen the Omega.

[Carter looks shocked after Cage’s confession of seeing visions of the Omega]

Cage: It’s pretty much game over tomorrow, so can we move this along.

Dr. Carter: Okay. Okay. Where?

Cage: There’s a dam, it’s in the mountains. I saw German writing.

Rita: Do you think you can work out where that is?

Dr. Carter: Well, I mean there can’t be too many places that fit that description. I see what I can do.

[to Cage]

Rita: Training is over. I’ll see you tomorrow.

[Rita goes to leave]

Cage: We don’t even know where we’re going.

Rita: We will soon enough. In the meantime, you need to figure out a way to get us off that beach.

[she turns and leaves]

[the next day on the beach as Cage and Rita are battling it out with the Mimics]

Rita: What next? Where are we going?

Cage: Yeah…

Rita: Which way? Focus! Which way?

Cage: I’m thinking. I’m thinking.

Rita: Okay…

[suddenly they’re attacked by a Mimic]

Cage: Oh, man!

[they both die and Cage is back in another loop walking along with Rita]

Rita: How far do we make it?

Cage: Well, it’s hard to say, really.

[the next day on the beach Rita follows Cage lead in finding the Mimics to attack]

Cage: Hold! Hold! Okay, go!

[as they move to attack suddenly a Mimic attacks them from the side]

Cage: Son of a bitch!

[in the next day’s loop Cage tries to instruct Rita where to go on the beach in order to avoid being killed by the Mimics]

Cage: I thought stepping left, ducking. Just for the record, stepping left, ducking…

Rita: Stepping left, ducking right.

Cage: It was pretty specific.

Rita: Stepping left, ducking right. Move on.

[the next day on the beach Cage leads Rita as they battle it out with the Mimics]

Cage: Hold on! Now, remember: across the trench, twelve o’clock, then look to your right.

[Rita rushes across the trench starts shooting when she’s suddenly attacked and killed by the same Mimic Cage was trying to warn her from; then it’s back to the next loop with Cage trying to show Rita where she needs to go on the beach without getting killed by Mimics]

Rita: You’re not being specific, you understand?

Cage: Oh, okay, but…

Rita: You need to be specific, otherwise I’m dead.

[Cage pauses a moment]

Cage: Just… Rita.

[Cage looks at her indicating that’s already happened, next day on the beach, Rita tries to follow Cage’s instructions but is again killed]

[back to the loop where Cage is showing Rita how to avoid getting killed on the beach]

Rita: Paces up to the top of the trench. I’m gonna step left, there’s gonna be a Mimic there which I’ll kill…

[the next day on the beach Cage looks at Rita’s dead body lying next to him in the trench, obviously this repeated scenario taking its toll on him, in the next loop Cage watches Rita as she goes through the instructions of where she needs to be on the beach]

Rita: …ship an explosion, I’m gonna run thirty paces northwest. I’m gonna duck at the top of that trench, and then I’m gonna turn left.

[the next day on the beach Rita ends up dying again, in the next loop Rita notices Cage watching her as she trains him]

Rita: Have I got something on my face?

Cage: No.

[that evening Cage walks out into the rain]

Skinner: Cage! We’ve been looking everywhere for you!

[Cage ignored him, Skinner and Kimmel run over to him]

Skinner: Cage! We've been looking…

[Skinner goes to grab Cage but Cage manages to slip out from under his hands]

Cage: Guys. Guys can we just not do this today?

Skinner: What are you talking about? Farell almost strung us up by our bullocks for losing track of you!

[Skinner goes to punch Cage but Cage easily steps aside and avoids the punch]

Cage: Okay, Skinner. Watch this.

[Cage puts his hands behind his back]

Cage: Now I’m gonna close my eyes.

[he closes his eyes, indicating he knows what Skinner is going to do as he’s been through this scenario many times]

Cage: Ready?

Skinner: Yeah.

[as Skinner tries to attack Cage he manages to avoid being hit and Skinner smacks into the wall after his second attempt, Cage looks at Kimmel who puts his hand up in defeat]

Kimmel: I didn’t mind the extra pushups.

[Cage turns and walks off]

[the next morning as J Squad are getting ready to leave for the beach]

Master Sergeant Farell: It’s a new day, people! Destiny calls. The world expects only one thing from us: that we will win!

[we see Cage riding off on a bike across London and then visiting a pub, he listens to the radio]

News Reporter: …current situation on the front line. Our troops have suffered heavy casualties.

Old Man: It’s about time we showed those things what we’re made of. My father flew in the Battle of Britain. Three years before the Yanks came into the war. Couldn’t be broken. Backbone.

Old Man 2: My Uncle George landed on the beach of Normandy, yeah. In their day this war would have been over by now.

Bar Maid: What do they want with us, anyway?

Old Man: It’s obvious, isn’t it? Minerals.

Old Man 2: Minerals?

Old Man: Yeah, minerals.

Old Man 3: Oxygen, they want.

Old Man: Oxygen?

Old Man 3: Think about it…

Cage: What difference does it make? They’re here, they’re winning. And whatever it is, they’re gonna get it.

Old Man: Shouldn’t you be over there?

Cage: I’ve been over there, more times than anybody. As a matter of fact, I’m usually long dead by now.

Old Man 2: Coward.

[suddenly the lights in the pub go out]

Old Man 2: The power’s gone.

[hearing sirens outside Cage steps out of the pub, he runs across the city watches in horror as the Mimics attack London and he ends up getting killed]

[in the next loop Rita finds Cage training on his own and taking down the mock Mimics in anger, next they visit Carter]

Dr. Carter: I found the Omega. I found it. It has to be here. Curnera Dam, Germany. This has got to be it, it fits the description perfectly.

Cage: Yes, you found it. Again. What difference does it make? Cause we’re never gonna get there. No matter what we do, no matter how carefully we plan, we can’t get off that beach.

[Rita walks over to Cage as he smashes the mock Mimic in the training area]

Rita: You can do this. You can. You keep coming here every day and I’ll train you.

Cage: You already have.

[we see Cage and Rita on the beach fighting the Mimics, Cage now fighting the Mimics like a pro, we see Farell and his squad in the trench]

Master Sergeant Farell: I’m waiting, Nance!

Nance: Five hundred meters and closing fast!

[suddenly the see Cage shooting his weapons at the Mimics that are about to attack them]

Nance: What the… ?!

[Farell watches in shock as Cage kills the Mimic, Cage and Rita kill a couple more Mimics]

Rita: What’s next?

[the Mimic he’s taken down stairs and Cage shoots his weapon at it killing it]

Cage: Straight shot, up the hill.

Rita: Okay.

[Cage and Rita start making their way; to Farell as they watch Cage and Rita]

Griff: Hey, Sarge. The new guy, what’s his name again?

[as they make it past the beach]

Cage: We need a vehicle to get further inland.

Rita: What’s the problem?

Cage: The problem is the ambush waiting for us down there, they kill before we find a working car.

Rita: Okay. So, what’s the current plan?

Cage: The two cars I haven’t tried are the Minivan…

Rita: Yep.

Cage: …and the green SUV.

Rita: Okay.

Cage: I’ll head for the SUV, draw the Mimics to me, you go for the Minivan. You get it started, just go, take off. Do not wait for me.

Rita: Okay.

[Rita goes to leave but Cage stops her]

Cage: Well… just don’t forget to disconnect the caravan before you take off. You are going to be in a hurry, you don’t want any dead weight.

[Cage and Rita rush on separately towards the Minivan and SUV, Rita finds the Minivan keys and tries to start the engine]

Rita: Come on.

[she manages to start the car, smashes the passenger door open and Cage runs towards the van]

Rita: Come on, Cage!

[Rita starts driving off, Cage looks back]

Cage: Can’t see!

[he sees that Rita hasn’t disconnected the caravan]

Cage: Did you…?

[as Rita drives the car radio is on with the same news report that was on when Cage was at the pub in London in his previous loop]

News Reporter: Stay where you are, remain calm. If you are in a vehicle, please lock the doors and stay inside.

[Rita gets them on to a main road]

News Reporter: I'm sorry. The enemy has reached London. Repeat, London is under attack.

[suddenly Cage smashes the radio in anger]

Cage: That’s good driving.

Rita: I forgot to unhook the trailer.

[suddenly a Mimic smashes through the trailer behind them, Cage starts shooting at it and manages to kill it making it explode, taking the trailer with it]

[as they drive along the main road in France]

Cage: You don’t talk much.

Rita: Not a fan.

Cage: Of talking?

Rita: Not a fan of talking, no.

Cage: You know, you eventually do talk to me. It’s usually around Lyon, you tell me about the time you went there with your family. Your brother got lost.

Rita: I’ve never been to Lyon.

Cage: You tell me your middle name: Peyton.

Rita: That’s not my middle name.

[Cage smiles]

Cage: You found your brother in the arcade, by the way.

Rita: Well, maybe I made it all up just to keep you quiet.

Cage: But you do talk to me.

Rita: Cage, I do not need to get to know you. And if you knew what was good for you, you wouldn’t want to get to know me either. It’s the only way you make it through this thing.

Cage: What about Hendricks, you get to know him?

Rita: How do you know that name?

Cage: You mention him.

Rita: That’s not possible.

Cage: Then how do I know his name?

Rita: When did I mention him? Under what circumstance?

Cage: Is he why you won’t talk to me?

[Rita hesitates a moment before replying]

Rita: Don’t ever mention his name again.

Cage: Why, are you in love with him?

Rita: He’s dead! And I watched him die three hundred times, and I remember every detail, I remember everything, so I don’t need to talk about it.

Cage: I’m sorry.

Rita: It’s just war.

[after they run out of gas Cage and Rita walk through the countryside, leave their suits as they run out of battery, and find an abandoned farmhouse]

Rita: There’s nothing here. Let's keep going.

[they look around and find a helicopter at the back of the garden]

Rita: We have to find the keys.

Cage: Let’s just siphon the gas.

Rita: Why drive when we can fly?

Cage: In that thing?

Rita: Let me guess, you’re afraid of heights.

Cage: I’m afraid of crashing. I’m not at all ashamed to admit it.

Rita: You’ll be fine, Cage, you’ll learn. Oh…!

[as Rita goes to reach for something she winces in pain]

Cage: What is it?

Rita: It’s nothing, I’m fine.

Cage: What is it?

Rita: It’s nothing.

Cage: Rita. Let me see.

[reluctantly Rita opens her jacket to reveal a large wound on her shoulder]

[Cage tends to Rita’s shoulder wound in the garage]

Rita: We have to find the keys to the helicopter.

Cage: I’m sure they’re around here somewhere. You know, the heli’s full of fuel, I found a hose.

Rita: We’re flying, Cage.

Cage: Let’s just say we find keys. You know? Get that helicopter started. We don’t have our jackets or ammunition and it’s gonna be dark in a few hours. Might be better off just going back to the farmhouse, seeing what we could salvage. You know, spend the night there, come back here in the morning.

Rita: And curl up by the fire and open a bottle of wine?

[Cage looks at her as if to say “why not”, Rita chuckles and Cage smiles]

Rita: We should just reset.

[she brings out her weapon to shoot Cage making him jump in fear]

Cage: Woh!

Rita: It’s a dead end.

Cage: Hey, hold… just…

Rita: If it’s all the same to you, I’m tired, I’m in pain. I’d rather just start fresh.

Cage: I’ll tell you what. Take a few minutes. Coffee’s ready. I’ll look around for the keys, that’s productive.

Rita: Ten minutes.

Cage: Okay.

Rita: And then I’m killing you.

Cage: Fine.

[Cage pours Rita some coffee]

Rita: I can’t believe you found coffee.

[he hands the mug to her]

Rita: Thank you.

Cage: Oh. Sugar, right?

[he goes to get her some sugar from his bag]

Rita: Yeah.

[he puts sugar in her coffee]

Rita: Thank you.

Cage: Hold on, three. You like three.

[Rita looks at Cage realizing they’ve been to the farmhouse before in another loop]

Cage: There’s a shirt over there, it should be your size.

Rita: How many times have we been here?

[Cage doesn’t reply]

Rita: How many times? Where are the keys?

[Cage still doesn’t reply]

Rita: Where are the Goddamn keys?

Cage: Okay.

[Cage takes the keys out of his pocket and hands them to her]

Rita: You can fly it, can’t you?

Cage: No. Well… yes. I mean, I can take off, I’m still working on my landing.

Rita: What are we still doing here? You’re wasting time!

[she turns to get her jacket and leave]

Cage: Rita, if you start that engine, you die!

[Rita stops and faces him]

Cage: This is as far as you go. No matter what I do, this is as far as you ever make it.

[looking shocked and offended Rita walks out of the garage and goes over to the helicopter with Cage following her]

Cage: There’s a Mimic buried twenty yards away. It attacks when you start the engine.

Rita: Get your weapon and get in the helicopter, Cage.

Cage: There's more in the field back there. Only one of us ever makes it.

[she gets into the helicopter]

Rita: Get in.

Cage: The only thing we haven’t tried is a version where you walk away, just go back to the farmhouse. There’s a cellar, food. You wait there til I get back. You’ll be safe.

Rita: I’m a soldier, I volunteered, I’m not walking away.

Cage: You die here! Right here! I… can’t save you. And if I go on and kill the Omega, you’re dead. Forever.

Rita: Why does it matter what happens to me?

Cage: I wish I didn’t know you, but I do.

[suddenly Rita starts the engine which immediately brings out the Mimic, it attacks the helicopter, Cage runs into the garage to get his weapon but it’s too late as the Mimic brings down the helicopter, Cage kills the Mimic and finds Rita lying down on the ground gravely injured, she takes his hand]

Rita: My middle name is Rose.

[Cage watches her die and in the in next instant the other Mimics attack and Cage wakes up in another loop]

Cruel Sergeant: On your feet, maggot!

[Cage wearily gets up, takes his uniform from the sergeant and walks off, next he meets Farell and Farell gives his usual speech as he takes him to meet J Squad]

Master Sergeant Farell: The good news is there’s hope for your, Private. Hope in the form of glorious combat. Battle is the great redeemer, the fiery crucible in which the only true heroes are forged. The one place…

[next Cage meets Rita for the first time as she trains]

Rita: Yes? Who said you could talk to me?

[Cage looks at her as he thinks for a moment]

Rita: Do I have something on my face, soldier?

Cage: I’m sorry to disturb you, Sergeant.

[deciding to not involve Rita any further, turns and walks away, next he gets ready as Griff straps him into his suite]

Griff: Alright, man. Let’s get this show on the road, I gotta suite up. Where’s your helmet?

Cage: Never wear one, it’s a distraction.

Griff: Have you been drinking?

Cage: I need three more clips of five-five-six, eight grenades and an extra battery.

[Griff looks at Cage with shock]

Cage: Get it.

[Griff nods his head]

[next Cage is on the airship taking them to France when Skinner does his usual line]

Skinner: Oi! Oi, mate! I think there’s something wrong with your suite!

[Cage looks at him coldly and finishes his line]

Cage: There’s a dead guy in it.

[after the drop onto the French coast Kimmel does his usual cheering before being squashed to death]

Kimmel: Wooh-hoo! We made it! Thank God, we made it! Yeah…!

[Cage watches Kimmel as the airship lands on him then sets of with determination, making it to the farmhouse, kills the Mimics there and flies off in the helicopter to the German dam alone he discovers that the Omega isn’t there and is then ambushed by a Mimic]

Cage: Finish it!

[as the Mimic goes to attack Cage it suddenly stops, Cage looks around to see an Alpha behind him, the Alpha tries to steel Cage’s blood in order to reset the day but Cage realizes and quickly manages to kill himself by drowning underneath damaged water pipes]

[in the next loop Cage confirms to Rita and Carter what he’d found at the dam]

Cage: It isn’t there.

Dr. Carter: What do you mean the Omega isn’t there?

Cage: My guess is it never was.

Rita: They knew we were coming, they ambushed us. The visions were a trap.

Cage: Just like Rita’s visions were a trap at Verdun. It could have killed me, but it didn’t. It was after my blood.

Dr. Carter: So they know who you are, they… they want their power back.

Rita: And they’re gonna get it one way or another, unless we find the Omega.

Dr. Carter: There… there isn’t any other way, we’re finished!

Rita: No, we’re not finished.

[she points to Carter’s small device on the table, which is a prototype transponder]

Dr. Carter: It doesn’t work. I can’t get it to work…

Rita: You built a prototype at Whitehall.

Dr. Carter: Yes! And I got fired for it, thank you very much.

[Cage picks up the device]

Cage: What is this thing, anyway?

Dr. Carter: It’s a transponder. You stick it into the Alpha and it taps into the wavelength connecting it to the Omega, that’s the idea anyway. But I can’t get it to work, not with the equipment I have on hand.

Cage: How do we get you what you need?

Dr. Carter: Well, that’s the thing. I mean, when I was at Whitehall I built one. I was even ready to test it, but when I told my superiors about it, well, I lost my job.

Rita: They thought he was crazy.

Cage: So all we need to do is go to Whitehall.

Dr. Carter: He’d be arrested ten feet from the front doors. Psyche ward dissection, remember?

[Rita indicates with her head to Cage to leave and they start walking off]

Dr. Carter: Hey, hey, hey! Aren’t you forgetting something? The transponder requires a live Alpha to make it work.

Rita: We don’t need one.

[pointing to Cage]

Rita: We got the next best thing.

[Rita and Cage leave]

[Cage and Rita walk up to Whitehall building]

Cage: When the Chinese delegation comes out, you pick up the pace. This guy with a yellow arm band always recognizes you, so just keep your head down and stay to my right.

[as they walk up the stairs, Rita keeps to Cage’s right side and keeps her head down managing to pass by the man with the yellow arm band unnoticed]

Cage: Nicely done.

[inside the building Cage watches the people holding onto Rita]

Cage: Three, two, one. Go.

[they start walking with Cage holding onto Rita’s arm as Cage counts quietly to himself]

Cage: One… six, seven, eight…

[Cage knows two guards are coming round the corner, so he slips them into an open elevator as they walk by, they leave the elevator and walk behind another guard]

Cage: Turn.

[Cage turns Rita so the guard doesn’t see her face and then as he walks off they continue down the corridor]

Cage: Okay, keep walking. Just stare straight ahead.

[Cage and Rita enter Brigham’s office]

General Brigham: I’ve asked not to be disturbed. This had better be critical.

Cage: Fate of mankind critical enough?

General Brigham: I don’t believe what I’m seeing.

Cage: I’ve had more than my share of that.

[Rita points her weapon at Brigham]

Rita: Sit down, General. Stay away from your desk.

Cage: I’d take her very seriously if I were you.

[Brigham takes a seat behind his desk]

General Brigham: I have to hand it to you, Major. When you left this office today, I never imagined you’d be back let alone with my most decorated soldier.

Cage: I’m here to tell you a story, General, and at first it’s gonna sound ridiculous, but the longer I talk the more rational it’s going to appear.

[at that moment the phone rings and Cage goes to pick it up]

Cage: Tell him you’ll call back.

General Brigham: Tell who?

Cage: Major General Beaumont calling from Halifax, his plane’s just been delayed. Bad weather.

[Brigham takes the phone from Cage]

General Brigham: Yes?

[he listens for a moment and realizes what Cage just told him is true]

General Brigham: Thank you, Beaumont. I’ll call you back.

Cage: Tomorrow’s invasion is a slaughter. I’m dead within five minutes of landing on that beach, along with every other soldier you are sending. And that’s because the enemy knows we’re coming. How do I know this? Before I died I killed a Mimic, only this one was different, it passed something on to me in my blood. Now I relive the same day over and over again. Just like they do. Just like Sergeant Vrataski at Verdun. Tell your secretary everything’s fine.

General Brigham: I beg your pardon?

[suddenly the office doors open Brigham’s secretary walks in]

Secretary – Iris: Oh, I’m sorry, General. I thought you were alone.

General Brigham: It’s fine.

[Brigham’s secretary walks over to Brigham’s desk carrying a piece of paper]

Cage: She typed up those orders for you to authorize, but she left out the ones referring to the fuel dump at Greenwich.

[Brigham takes the paper from his secretary and reads it]

Cage: Your name is Iris. Your birthday is September 17th. The General quietly pulled some strings stationed your only son in Australia, as far from the war as possible. Tell the General his dinner’s been canceled, the call came in just now.

[to Brigham]

Secretary – Iris: Your dinner was canceled.

General Brigham: You forgot the fuel dump.

[Brigham gives the paper back to his secretary]

General Brigham: Thank you, Iris. That will be all.

[the secretary looks at Cage for a moment before walking out of the office]

[after Brigham’s secretary leaves the room Rita gets her weapon out again]

Rita: Cage, let's go.

Cage: Rita, let me just…

Rita: What are you doing?

Cage: Please, don’t shoot him again. Okay? Just… just…

[to Brigham]

Cage: General, th… this isn’t the first time we’ve had this conversation. That’s… because you’re… you’re stubborn. You won’t believe me when I tell you that Dr. Carter was right, that the enemy can manipulate time. The invasion will fail, no matter how many bodies you throw at it. The only way to win this war is by finding this power source of the Mimic horde and killing it. And the only means of finding it is in that safe right there.

[Brigham looks at the safe on the wall]

Cage: No matter how many times that we have this conversation you refuse to accept that the enemy breaks through to London tomorrow and we lose. We lose everything.

General Brigham: Let’s say for the moment that I can’t rationally explain your impressive parlor tricks.

[Brigham goes over the safe, opens it and takes out the device]

General Brigham: Dr. Carter told me this device requires a live Mimic to work. What use is it to you?

Cage: That’s my concern.

General Brigham: On the contrary. According to you, this concerns the whole world.

Cage: Well, what would you do if you believed everything I just told you?

General Brigham: I would locate this…

Cage: Omega.

General Brigham: And bomb it out of existence.

Cage: You’re not mentally equipped to fight this thing, and you never will be.

[Brigham hands over the device to Cage, who gives Brigham a suspicious look before taking it and walking over to Rita]

Rita: What do we do now?

Cage: I don’t know, we’ve never gotten this far.

[Cage and Rita walking out of the building; to Rita]

Cage: That was easy.

[suddenly they are surrounded by armed soldiers]

Soldier: Stop! Stop right there! Don’t move! Nobody move!

[suddenly Rita gets out her gun to shoot Cage and reset the day]

Soldier: Drop it!

[in the next loop Cage and Rita have managed to get away through the basement garage in a stolen car, Cage gets the device out to activate it]

Cage: How am I supposed to do this?

Rita: Stick it in your leg! Do it!

[as Cage hesitates Rita suddenly grabs the device and stabs him in the leg with it and Cage starts to see where the Omega is located]

Rita: Cage, what happened? Talk to me?

Cage: I feel it, it… it’s taking me there.

Rita: What do you see?

[Cage sees the glass pyramid outside the Louvre in Paris]

Cage: It’s… it’s the Louvre.

Rita: Where? Where are you?

Cage: I’m inside now. It’s flooded. I’m going down a garage, a garage underneath the museum.

Rita: The Omega, can you see it?

[suddenly Cage comes out of his vision as Rita is still driving to get away from the soldiers]

Cage: It’s in Paris!

[suddenly they are attacked by a UDF soldier who shoots Cage in the leg and crashes into their car causing the airbag to knock out Vrataski]

[Cage awakens strapped to a hospital gurney getting a blood transfusion and realizes he has lost the ability to reset the day; to the nurse checking on him]

Cage: What have you done? What have you done?

Infirmary Nurse: You’ll be fine, you just needed blood.

Cage: You don’t know what you’ve just done.

Infirmary Nurse: I’m not allowed to talk to you.

Cage: I was with someone. Rita Vrataski. Is she alive? Rita Vrataski? Please, just tell me that.

[the nurse doesn’t reply]

Cage: Please tell me.

Infirmary Nurse: I’m sorry.

[Cage watches the nurse leave then struggles to free himself but only manages to turn the gurney over, he then hears someone enter the room, sees a pair of boots standing beside the gurney, then sees that it’s Rita as she bends down to face him]

Rita: I was out of those things in three minutes flat, Cage. What’s wrong with you?

[Cage smiles]

Cage: I thought you were dead.

Rita: Not yet.

[Rita turns the gurney over, gets her knife out to kill Cage]

Rita: I’m sorry, Cage.

Cage: No! Wait, wait, wait! I’m out! I’m out! They gave me blood!

[Rita looks at the half empty blood bag]

Cage: I lost the power. I feel it. I can’t reset the day anymore.

[Rita helps him break out]

Cage: We have to kill the Omega before the invasion starts. That gives us less than three hours.

Rita: We need a drop ship to get to Paris in time.

Cage: We need more soldiers too.

Rita: Now, who's crazy enough to follow us to Paris?

[Cage tries to sneak back into his barracks when Skinner and Kimmel catch him]

Skinner: Cage! Cage!

Cage: Guys!

Skinner: We’ve been looking everywhere for you!

Cage: Just listen…

Skinner: Farell almost strung us up by our bullocks for losing track of you!

Cage: I know. I know. Just listen. But you’re gonna want to hear this story. Now it’s gonna sound ridiculous at first, but the longer I talk, the more rational it’s going to appear.

Skinner: Yeah?!

[next Skinner is sat with the rest of the squad in the barracks]

Skinner: He named the school I went to, and then he tells me my second grade teacher was called Miss Polio.

Kimmel: She wouldn’t let him go to the bathroom, made him wet his pants.

[one of them laughs]

Skinner: Shut up! Look, I’m telling you, he knows everything… about all of us.

[he points to Cage who’s standing in the room]

Ford: Bullshit.

Kimmel: Yeah? He says your name ain’t really Ford. He says Ford was your friend, died in combat on his first day. You took his place, send your checks to his family.

Nance: You slippery bitch.

Skinner: Cage says the enemy knows us too. They’re waiting for us on the beach, and we all die. The whole invasion is a slaughter.

Griff: Well, this is great. Really good confidence boost for tomorrow. Thanks, Cage.

Nance: But we can change it, right? I mean, there has to be something that we can do. There has to be a way that we can win.

Cage: There is a chance. It’s a slim one. But it means coming with me, right now.

Griff: Listen, pal, I don’t really care what you think you know about us. We just met you. Come on, why would we follow him into combat?

Cage: I don’t expect you to follow me. I expect you to follow her.

[to everyone’s shock Rita enters the room]

Griff: That’s the Full Metal Bitch…

Cage: J Squad, this is Rita Vrataski, otherwise known as…

Kuntz: Yeah, yeah. The Angel of Verdun.

[Rita looks at the squad with uncertainty for a moment then looks at Cage]

Rita: Okay.

[we see the team taking off in an aircraft]

[the next morning Farell does his usual speech to the soldiers before they set off to France]

Master Sergeant Farell: It’s a new day, people! Destiny calls. The world expects only one thing from us: that we will win! Rest assured they enemy will thank you for not giving a hundred percent today.

[he walks down to where J Squad are usually located]

Master Sergeant Farell: Squad!

[Farell sees J Squad is missing]

Master Sergeant Farell: Where’s J Squad?

[J Squad along with Cage and Rita are on their way to Paris in the stolen airship]

Kimmel: Right, okay, so this Omega, it controls time.

v1 - Just blow the New Age bollocks back where it came from.

v2 - Exploding it into pieces and sending its bullocks back to where it came from! And then we go home!

I hear: Just blow the New Age piece of bollocks back where it came from.

Kimmel: Right, it’s guarded by an Alpha…

Kuntz: Just kill it, okay?

Griff: No! You head what Cage said, do not kill an Alpha. If we kill an Alpha, the Omega will reset this whole day. We’ll never even remember we had this conversation. They’re gonna know we’re coming.

Ford: So what am I supposed to do if one of those Alpha’s is about to kill me?

Cage: Take a hit for the team.

[Cage walks over to Rita]

Cage: When we’re on the ground there’s not gonna be a lot of time before they know we’re there. We’re gonna need eyes up here.

Rita: I’m going in, Cage.

[as they approach the Louvre]

Drop Ship Pilot: Thirty seconds till contact.

[suddenly the aircraft is hit by the Mimics and Cage falls to the ground]

Griff: Cage!

[Kimmel is hit]

Griff: Kimmel, no!

[one of the squad members starts shooting at the Mimics]

Griff: Let’s go!

Rita: Cage!

Griff: We gotta go!

Cage: Drop!

Griff: Cage, they know we’re coming!

[to the squad]

Cage: Drop! Drop! Drop! Drop!

[the squad drop down out of the airship, Cage then turns to Rita]

Cage: Drop!

Rita: You’re not hooked in!

[Cage presses the release handle to drop Rita out of the ship, the Mimics then crash the airship, killing the rest of the squad and it falls into the river]

[Cage manages to get himself out of the water and goes in search of the rest of the team when he runs into Rita]

Rita: What took you so long?

[Cage smiles at her]

Cage: Any others?

[after catching up with the rest of the squad]

Skinner: We’re low on ammo. I’ve got one Claymine. Ford, you’re out. Griff has only got half a magazine left and he can hardly move. I thought you could see the future.

Cage: I haven’t lived this day. I don’t know what’s gonna happen.

Rita: It doesn’t matter. What matters is we finish this.

Ford: With what? I mean, Griff can’t even walk. We’re three men down. Come on!

Rita: Look, we’re running out of time. Collect your ammo.

Skinner: There must be a thousand Mimics between us and that pyramid. So what are we gonna do? Just walk up to the front door, is that it?

Rita: If we stay here, we die.

Skinner: Yeah? We’ll never get through.

Cage: We could, in that.

[looks over to the crashed airship near them]

Skinner: That ship will never fly.

Cage: It doesn’t need to fly, it just needs to get us across there with speed. If the engines are still running, we could steer it with the power levers. Skinner, clear a path.

[as Skinner clears the path for the helicopter, Rita and Cage try to start the airship]

Rita: Try it again, now.

Cage: No, it’s not reading.

Rita: Condition Lever, "LOW".

[outside Skinner continues to clear their path; back in the airship]

Rita: Master Power, "ON".

[outside Skinner finishes clearing the path]

Skinner: Griff, we gotta go! Come on!

Griff: I’m not gonna be any good in there, mate. Let me buy you some time.

[Griff looks at the truck ahead of them and look at Skinner; back in the airship]

Cage: TPower’s on, this is gonna work.

[outside Skinner pulling Griff along with him head over to the truck]

Ford: Hey! Hey, come on, man! We gotta go!

Skinner: Don’t wait for us!

Ford: Skinner, Griff, come on!

Cage: We’re good to go, where are they?

Rita: Where’s Skinner and Griff?

Ford: They’re not coming!

[Cage starts the airship’s engine]

[as Skinner reaches the truck with Griff]

Griff: Go, brother. You gotta go, man.

Skinner: I’ll see you in the next life.

[Skinner turns to leave but suddenly a Mimic appears ahead of them]

Skinner: Bullocks!

[to Griff as the Mimic is about to attack them]

Skinner: Move over! Move over!

[Griff and Skinner start shooting at the Mimic, Ford sees the commotion from inside the airship]

Ford: We gotta go! Yo, we gotta go now!

Rita: They’re coming, Cage.

[as Cage starts moving the airship, Griff and Skinner use the last of their ammo to shoot at the Mimic]

Skinner: Come on, you bastards! Come on!

Ammunition Computer: Reload. Reload. Reload.

[Griff looks at Skinner and nods his head, Skinner then suddenly sets off the explosives strapped to his suite exploding themselves and the Mimics]

[as the airship is moving along towards the Louvre a flock of Mimics starts making their way towards their ship]

Ford: We’ve got incoming!

[Ford starts shooting at the Mimics]

Ford: Come on!

[Cage starts shooting at one of the Mimics as it gets inside the ship]

Rita: Cage!

[as more Mimics are ahead of them both Cage and Rita start shooting, Ford is then killed by one of the Mimics; to Rita]

Cage: You have to take over!

[Cage moves to where Ford was using the weapons at the back of the ship and starts shooting at the Mimics following them, Rita gets knocked down and loses control of the ship as they get close to the Louvre]

Cage: Rita!

[Rita manages to get hold of the controls]

Cage: Punch it! Punch it!

[they crash into the Louvre, Rita gets their remaining ammo and goes over to where Cage has fallen]

Cage: We’ve been through worse.

[Rita and Cage manage to kill some Mimics as they make their way to the Omega, when they explode one of them Rita lands on top of Cage]

Rita: Okay.

[Cage looks to where the Omega is located]

Cage: It’s there. In the water, there.

[Rita helps Cage stand as they hear an Alpha approaching]

Rita: That’s an Alpha.

Cage: I’m gonna draw that thing away, you kill the Omega.

Rita: No, you won’t make it ten feet before that thing kills you, Cage.

Cage: I can do it.

Rita: Take the grenades.

Cage: I can do it.

Rita: Listen to me. Listen to me. Neither one of us is getting out of here.

[they looks at each other for a moment, Rita holds the grenade belt for Cage to take which he does reluctantly]

Rita: Thank you for getting me this far. You’re a good man, Cage. I wish I had the chance to know you better.

[she kisses him then turns and rushes off to distract the Alpha]

[Rita is killed by the Alpha as she tries to draw it away from Cage, the Alpha then goes after Cage who manages to dive underwater to get to the Omega, the Alpha catches up to Cage and mortally wounds him, but not before Cage pulls all the grenade pins and drops the belt into the Omega which explodes and all the Mimics die with it, then as Cage dies, the Omega’s blood absorbs into him and he wakes up in the helicopter en route to London to his initial meeting with Brigham the day before, looking confused Cage gets off the helicopter and is met by a UK military representative]

Julie: Welcome to London, Major. I’m Corporal Montgomery, your liaison to General Brigham’s press office. Very good to have you. Have you heard the news? Isn't it brilliant?

[as she proceeds to tell him Cage looks to his side and notices a massive painting of Rita in her suite with a sign saying “To Victory”, Cage smiles to himself]

[Cage watches the press conference where Brigham is making an announcement]

General Brigham: Just before sunrise this morning, a large surge of energy was detected in Paris. We do not know exactly what this signifies, but the result appears to be a total collapse of the enemy’s capacity to fight. Russian and Chinese troops are now moving across Europe without resistance. Tomorrow, we advance on the Western front. We believe we are marching to claim a victory for ourselves, for our loved ones, for our countrymen, for the entire human race.

[we see Farell training J squad]

Master Sergeant Farell: What are you? Sound off!

J Squad: I’m a warrior!

Master Sergeant Farell: What do warriors do?

J Squad: Kill!

Master Sergeant Farell: What are you gonna do?

J Squad: Kill!

Griff: You haven’t been in twenty battles, Ford.

Ford: I have too!

Griff: You’re gonna dump your load the second we hit the beach tomorrow, Ford.

Nance: How about you two get yourselves a nice hot cup of shut-the-hell-up?

[Ford chuckles]

Ford: Ha-ha. You funny, girl. But I bet you I set some kind of record tomorrow.

Skinner: Fastest time moving backwards, Ford, slipping in your own shit!

[Cage watches them from the side as they go past him, happy to see them all alive]

[last lines; Cage goes to find Rita at her usual training area, as Cage walks in he’s treated with respect by the soldiers as he’s a Major once more]

Soldier: Attention!

[the soldiers stand to attention as Cage walks over to Rita, as she sees Cage she greets him with her usual abruptness, of course not recognizing him]

Rita: Yes? What do you want?

[Cage smiles and then breaks into a laugh]
